COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR CHILD PSYCHIATRY SERVICES:

WHAT DOES TESTING FOR ADHD LOOK LIKE?

Testing for ADHD is a one to two-month process and can be broken down in 3 steps.

STEP 1: A comprehensive assessment which lasts about 1 1/2 hours with both the child and caregivers.

STEP 2: Forms to be filled out by the child’s teachers and relevant school officials.

STEP 3: The child and parent will return for a final evaluation and determine the best treatment plan moving forward.

WHAT DOES PSYCHIATRY SERVICES COST?

Cost varies by insurance plan. But, after verifying your insurance, we’ll inform you what you’ll expect to pay. We also accept self-pay clients via check or credit-card.

WHICH INSURANCE DO YOU ACCEPT FOR PSYCHIATRY?

We work with a wide variety of insurance companies, HMO networks, and Medicaid. We also accept self-pay clients.

We are always expanding our network.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PEDIATRIC PSYCHIATRIST AND A ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRIST?

Pediatrics typically cover children ages 0-20 and adolescents are typically considered children ages 10-19. So, there is a lot of overlap between the two. We see all children at La Plata Family Therapy.

HOW LONG WILL I OR MY CHILD BE ON MEDICATION?

It just depends. There are so many variables that affect a child’s mental health it’s difficult to give a definitive answer. Every child is different which is why we have a thorough evaluation to develop a treatment plan.

There is ongoing communication between the caregivers and the psychiatric nurse on the child’s progress. When it is agreed that the goals and concerns have been fully addressed, it is time to graduate AND celebrate!
